_The Blood that speaks_
Hebrews 12:22-26 But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels, To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect, And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than [that of] Abel. See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him that spake on earth, much more [shall not] we [escape], if we turn away from him that [speaketh] from heaven: Whose voice then shook the earth: but now he hath promised, saying, Yet once more I shake not the earth only, but also heaven.
The writer of Hebrews contrasts between mount Sinai and Mount Zion (Sion). In the old testament the mount Sinai was a mountain no one would dare to approach because of the fear of God's wrath and only one man would approach it, Moses.
But in the new convenant, God urges us to draw near to him many times and on this particular mount Zion we are allowed to approach and climb it. Mount Sinai was a physical mountain (still there until now ) but mount Zion is a spiritual mountain.
He speaks of us coming ...meaning we are coming from somewhere and we come to a place of settlement. To get to mount Zion, we must pass through Sinai.
Moses was the mediator of the old covenant. Jesus is the mediator of the new
Abel’s blood cried out from the ground testifying to vengeance (Genesis 4:10), while the Savior’s blood is an appeal for forgiveness.
This why it is far better to look to the cross as the blood of Jesus speaks for us to God by pleading on our behalf and seeks that we may not be destroyed by the wrath of God.
Let's find rest in our saviour's suffering and enjoy the freedom that comes with it. He came for the sinners and died for us so that we could stand blameless before God.
Dear God we thank you for your son Jesus. May we always look towards your throne for grace and mercy instead of running away from you for you are life.
