The Chariot Eye
|Pr. Patrick Buwemba|
Numbers 21:4-9 Then the people of Israel set out from Mount Hor, taking the road to the Red Sea to go around the land of Edom. But the people grew impatient with the long journey, and they began to speak against God and Moses. "Why have you brought us out of Egypt to die here in the wilderness?" they complained. "There is nothing to eat here and nothing to drink. And we hate this horrible manna!" So the Lord sent poisonous snakes among the people, and many were bitten and died. Then the people came to Moses and cried out, "We have sinned by speaking against the Lord and against you. Pray that the Lord will take away the snakes." So Moses prayed for the people. Then the Lord told him, "Make a replica of a poisonous snake and attach it to a pole. All who are bitten will live if they simply look at it!" So Moses made a snake out of bronze and attached it to a pole. Then anyone who was bitten by a snake could look at the bronze snake and be healed!
Whenever men start to focus on themselves, critics, complaints and self importance comes in and these the Lord hates, for they separate man from recognising the importance of the cross in their lives.
No man can save him self. Once you're in trouble you need a man who understands your pain and yet he is not in the same trouble, to save you. So the bronze snake on the tree is Jesus on the cross.
We have many Christians who think their qualification to God is because they are good at prayer, fasting and giving and they have removed the cross from their lives, and yes, God would be able to stop sin from having effect on men at any one time but he let it be like that, because he needed men to recognise Gods importance in their lives.
Like the Israelites started to undermine the power of God in their lives and they also started to underate the place of their spiritual father/mentor in their lives. God brought snakes to torment them, to put them in focus again unto his help. This continues to happen in Christians lives just for them to see the importance of God and the man that shows you God. Today, go back to the first love, where you see your fathers value in your life of pointing you to the work of Christ at the cross.
To be continued......
Lord help us not to take for granted your presence in our time and the men of God that pray for us. Teach us always to honour and respect them
