The dispensation of Grace
Hebrews 2:1-4 So we must listen very carefully to the truth we have heard, or we may drift away from it. For the message God delivered through angels has always stood firm, and every violation of the law and every act of disobedience was punished. So what makes us think we can escape if we ignore this great salvation that was first announced by the Lord Jesus himself and then delivered to us by those who heard him speak? And God confirmed the message by giving signs and wonders and various miracles and gifts of the Holy Spirit whenever he chose.
Paul is warning us against giving up on the salvation that Christ has extended to us through grace
Ephesians 3:1-2 When I think of all this, I, Paul, a prisoner of Christ Jesus for the benefit of you Gentiles . . . assuming, by the way, that you know God gave me the special responsibility of extending his grace to you Gentiles.
Because it has been extended to us, he is warning us to pay close attention to this truth that Christ is the representation of God's love towards us as he is the only way to salvation.
The reason he points us to paying attention is because he has seen men drifting away from this truth.
Its very easy to drift away because men are still looking to their works to please God instead of looking at the grace through the finished works of Christ. Many come to church but dont pay attention to the message being shared and instead drift off into thinking the next week, business etc and they miss out on this great salvation.
He also points out to us that the angels too spoke about this message of salvation then and it cannot be altered and if the The Lord Jesus himself came to speak about this message and those that moved with him testified of the same, it is therefore important and we must focus/ pay close attention to his word for its truth.
This salvation through Jesus is the ultimate and there's nothing beyond or better than it. Its the only escape route for us.
Escape is only spoken about when there is great danger lying ahead.
When there's danger, there's need for a saviour and Christ came to save us. We are all sinners and fit for God's condemnation but Christ came to restore us to the righteousness of God therefore he is a serious issue.
Father help me see the grace that you have given to me through your son.
